Effective 7/1/11 the calendar year maximum for the dental program has been increased to $1,200. The increased maximum will apply to all services provided on or after 7/1/11.
Expenses above the old maximum of $1,000 that were incurred before 7/1/2011 cannot be reimbursed.
To clarify the implications of this higher annual maximum, (effective 7/1/2011) note the scenarios below. They serve as examples to illustrate how the increased maximum will be applied.
- Scenario 1
You have not utilized the dental plan in 2011. Effective 7/1/11 you have $1,200 remaining toward your 2011 calendar year maximum and effective 1/1/12 you will have a calendar year maximum of $1,200 for the 2012 plan year. - Scenario 2
You have utilized $500 toward your calendar year maximum prior to 7/1/11. Effective 7/1/11 you have $700 remaining toward your 2011 calendar year maximum and effective 1/1/12 you will have a calendar year maximum of $1,200 for the 2012 plan year. - Scenario 3
You have exceeded the $1,000 calendar year maximum prior to 7/1/11. Effective 7/1/11, you have $200 remaining toward your 2011 calendar year maximum. This amount can only be applied to services received after 7/1/11. Effective 1/1/12, you will have a calendar year maximum of $1,200 for the 2012 plan year.
I’m also attaching an updated summary of the dental plan. My understanding is that all HR offices of the Community Colleges have received this summary and were supposed to communicate the changes to employees affected.
