Licensures and Certifications

The classification study issued in 2000 recommended that special, job-related licenses and certifications be recognized in the pay structure. It did not make specific recommendations but left that considerable amount of work to a committee. A joint management-union Licensure and Certifications Committee was formed.

About 2001, all full-time unit members were asked to submit their licenses and certifications for consideration by the Licensure and Certifications Committee. This committee considered every submission and issued a report in 2003. It contains more than 500 licenses/certifications, with a unit value assigned for each, reflecting the committee's assessment of each item and its recommendations for the relative weight it should carry in the classification system.

Under the tentative agreement, these points are being incorporated into our contract. The classification point equivalent to each item is 3 times the value of the number contained in the "units" column in the report.

QUESTION: What do I do if a license or certification that I hold, and that I feel is relevant to my work, is not included in the report?

ANSWER: Chances are your license or certification was not submitted to the committee in 2001. Please send details to President Joe LeBlanc at President, or mail to him at the MCCC office, and we will ensure that it is considered by this committee.
