MCCC Training and Help Desk for Professional Staff Classification Appeals

On Wednesday February 27, 2002 a "Training and Help Desk" workshop was held at the MCCC Office in Auburn in anticipation of the March 15 deadline for appeals of the classifications MCCC professional staff received in the recent classification study. Trainees from each campus and individual unit members met with MCCC President Phil Mahler, Vice President Rick Doud, Secretary Phyllis Barrett, Day Grievance Coordinator Dennis Fitzgerald, and Michelle Gallagher and Katie D'Urso, MTA Consultants.

Michelle Gallagher developed a concise summary sheet with recommendations for strategies for proceeding with anticipated classes of appeals. The three classes of appeals specified by the appeals form include misallocation of points, inadequate reflection of job duties, and relative grade misplacement. Assembling relevant documents was suggested to be a sine qua non of the appeals process. M-004s, E-7s, job descriptions of the grade placement at which you were placed, and to which you believe yourself to belong, along with any and all corroborating documentation was emphasized essential to any appeal.

Each attendee was also given a copy of the Classification Job Specifications for Professional Staff.
