MCCC Buys an Office

The Operational Audit Review Committee, a few years ago, recommended that the MCCC establish a central office to provide better service to our members and for internal support.

The current "Central Office" at a leased location in Auburn, was established under the auspices of the outgoing treasurer Estela Carrion. She worked to successfully develop a competent and stable office staff, and to develop an operation that is professional and indispensable to the increasingly complex operations of the organization..

The lease for the current office runs out this Fall. For the past 18 months or so various locations have been viewed by the Executive Committee, members of the Board, and MCCC operatives with an eye towards purchase of a more permanent office space.

At their March meeting, the MCCC Board of Directors approved the purchase of a more permanent site for the MCCC office.

The new likely location (pending a successful conclusion to the purchase process) is in Worcester, near the Centrum. It is an -office space in a building with 4 or 5 other tenants, mostly dental offices.

The new office is located in a location 3 minutes off the Worcester Expressway (I-290). It currently has 3 office areas, 2 workrooms, an office/reception area, and a large unfinished space which will be developed into meeting space and/or offices.

The new facilities will double the space available in the office, from about 1,000 square feet to 2,000 square feet. 2,000 square feet is necessary for an organization that processes thousands of records per year and archives grievance and other data. Much of the archived records of the MCCC are currently stored in a rented space which is inconvenient to access. File searches involve moving boxes. The new office will be cost effective in this regard.

The MCCC is taking advantage of the "buyer's market" and is making this acquisition at a good price that does not endanger its financial stability. Leasing the same amount of space would be much more than the cost of owning.

The current plan is to be moved into the Worcester location by the end of June.
