Anne Wass, candidate for the MTA Vice President slot in spring 2002, visited the MCCC Board of Directors meeting Friday February 15, 2002. The position will be decided by a vote of delegates to the May 2002 MTA annual meeting in Boston May 17 and 18. She spoke for ten minutes and fielded questions for another five.
In her presentation she outlined her service to her local district, the MTA and NEA, and emphasized her commitment to strengthening the MTA by building stronger locals.
Wass teaches sixth grade at the Hanover Middle School in Hanover, MA, and lives in Marshfield, MA.
She has been a local MTA president twice - early in her career and once recently. First serving in 1976, she continues to be local bargaining team member. She chaired her local negotiating team for 12 years. She was in a leadership role when her school district was on strike in 1988.
She is in her fifth year on the MTA Executive Committee representing Region C-Plymouth County and the Cape and Islands.
She served on the MTA Board of Directors for 6+ years in the 80's. Currently she has been on the MTA Executive Committee for the past 5 years.
She has performed roles for the MTA including Chair of Training for New Local Presidents at Williams Conference, Member of EOC - Equal Opportunity Council. She is a member of MTA's Bargaining Team with Staff Unions.She is one of 6 members who worked on researching and writing MTA's Blueprint forEducation.
She is a former Chair of the Bargaining subcommittee of NEA's Resolution Committee from Massachusetts.
In her concluding remarks to the MCCC BOD she commented "I believe training our local leaders is a key to moving forward as a strong organization. MTA is ultimately a collection of locals - so strong locals makes for a stronger MTA."
